Passions

Live Strong

The dictionary defines a passion as a strong and barely controllable outburst of emotion.   That’s a powerful statement.  I’ve recommended Lance Armstrong’s site LIVESTRONG because he’s the first person I think of when I imagine raw, unfiltered passion.  As it relates to your life, the discovery of your own passions is a wonderful achievement and, once identified, it’s imperative you act on your discovery and make your passions a part of your daily life.  Hopefully, this means your career/business allows you to express your emotion, if not, you should make a valiant effort to do what you love outside of work.  Use Lance as a guide, but also seek out others around you who live out their dreams every day, and follow their lead.

Careers

No More Mondays

No employer who sits you down for an interview wants to see that you’ve worked 12 jobs in the last 12 months.  That’s not considered variety, it’s suicide.  The best jobs are the ones that require a specialized skill.  These jobs pay the best, offer the most flexibility, and allow for career development well after your first promotion.  Or, if you’re like me and hate working for someone else, take advantage of the Internet and start your own business.  Check out the book, “No More Mondays” by Dan Miller and begin your life today.

Finances

Mint

Probably the hottest financial management system available on the web.  Mint.com is an amazing resource for syncing all of your financial accounts in one place.  You can stay up-to-date with everything from your bank accounts and credit cards to real estate and investments.  Oh yeah, it’s also really safe and secure, so you can breathe.  Also, pick up the book, “The Total Money Makeover” by Dave Ramsey.  It will seriously change the way you think about money forever.

Insurance

Self-Employed

Simply put, if you think you’re saving yourself time and money by getting your insurance through your employer, think again.  Job security is a joke and if you want to keep the insurance you’ve applied for (and not withstand a dozen more blood tests and lengthy applications) then stick with privatized, self-employment insurance that keeps you covered wherever you live or work.
