Thanks for the comment Casey! I totally see your point and let me clarify a little more about my view on the media. I use to watch the news all the time, local, national, newspapers, etc. I found myself watching and reading repetative and shallow stories that didn't affect or interest me or my goals in life. I have found that if I target news stories I'm interested in from credible sources I can easily filter most of the BS from mass news media outlets. This typically means reading blogs and/or subscribing to newsletters from niche markets that I'm passionate about. I don't intend on living in a cave, but I do plan on shielding myself from as much nonsense as possible. I hope that made sense.

Hi Jeff,
I like your thoughts on no TV--that's actually something I've been trying to cut back on hugely and the more I cut it out, the more amazed I am at how much time it can suck if you're not careful. However, I don't agree with your idea about giving up all forms of news and just relying on others to keep you informed. I think we all have a responsibility to be intelligent participants in our society, and part of that responsibility involves monitoring what's happening in the world. We are constantly evolving and, if you want to be a part of that evolution, you have to learn about what's happening. LEARN. Not just overhear. Or get the five-minute rundown from a friend. While cutting out news might make you more productive in the short run, it won't do anything for your long-term productivity and contribution to the world.

Pain is the solution. The endurance for pain is the destination. Endure the pain of your imperfection to the last drop, and lick your lips. The pain is the fun part. I dread being sedated by comforts. I want experience. I want a hard rub on some cheese grating barbed wire to find the marrow of existence. Your mind creates your necessary pain and the resulting gratification of completion. Those that resist the pain will not learn. Those that rub their faces in the dirtiest dredges of loathsome failure will laugh at those who piss their pants at the edge of the diving board. And in the end, its all a folly illusion prompted by tiny sparks in your otherwise nonexistent brain.

That’s a really informative post on the state of college education in Tennessee. I also firmly believe that college education not only sharpens our thinking ability, but also gives us skills required for complex and well-paying jobs, leading to an overall better quality of life. The fact that people with college degrees are in better jobs and earn a lot more than those who are high school graduates or less should encourage many in the state of Tennessee and rest of the country to give college education a serious thought. So, are you interested in securing a bright future for yourself by getting a college degree? CollegeAmerica offers a broad range of accredited degree programs in healthcare, computer, business, and graphic arts.

Hey Jon, for anything technical you want to get accomplished on the web (iphone apps, webdesign, photoshop, etc.), you need to use a professional programmer. Unless you have the expertise yourself, it is much easier to outsource the work to someone who has done it well before. For an iphone app, you could look into freelancing the work (like iphonefreelancer.com, elance.com, or getreplacemyself.com) or find programmer you could use as a business partner. Travis Russell actually has more experience with this than I do. He has hired progammers for WebbChange, so you could contact him if you have more specific questions. You could also take the plunge and learn how to program an iphone yourself, but I'm sure you've already looked into that. Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck on your project! Let me know how it progresses. Thanks!

Jeff, I've always wanted to create an application for the iphone. I have an idea, but that is pretty much where it ends. My question is if I do have an idea how can I secure it, How could I develop it? I've done a few searches online trying to find companies that develop apps, but I don't seem to be getting very far. A little help in the right direction could help. Thanks.

We definitely agree with setting big goals and not calling them resolutions. Resolutions are always forgotten by the end of January, you never hear of someone still working on a New Year's Resolution in July. So, here are some of our goals for 2010:
Marc - get a job he enjoys, apply for an Anthropology Masters Program
Diana - transfer to an ICU, save enough money for CRNA graduate school

great blog on budgeting! I can't believe how many people in thier 20's (or latter) don't have a budget written down somewhere, and I think the websites you have here provide some wonderful tools for the first generation raised on the internet. I love the Rich Dad Poor Dad books, and would also like to recommend Suze Orman's 9 Steps to Financial Freedom; she covers budgets in depth. Keep up the good work!
