Thanks to All the Editors For Helping Out!
The Application Process has now Ended.
What is the GAC Blog Community Editing Project?
This is a social book editing experiment. I want YOUR input! My goal is to get the community involved with my new book. Everyone reading this is invited to apply for an editor position. From the applications, I will choose 30 editors to dice and splice individual chapters. You have an opportunity to help me out and in return you will get FREE stuff. Sound like a good deal?
What is in it for Me?
Here is the best part, not only will you receive a FREE copy of the finished eBook and a FREE copy of the hardcover book when it’s published, but you will also be listed as a Contributing Editor in the finished product! Nice! That’s resume material baby!
Stories: If you have an amazing story, or know someone who does, that you think would fit in the book, just let me know. I may include your story in the final book, too!
What’s Required of Me?
Apply for an editing position. If you are selected, successfully edit one chapter.
What’s a Successful Edit?
LOTS of red ink. I want an editor who has the guts to tell me I suck. I want someone who is willing to tear my book to shreds. I don’t want fluffy compliments. I want to know what needs to be fixed. I want honesty. A successful edit will offer tons of suggestions, cut anything that’s useless, and find every spelling and grammar mistake imaginable. Straight-up tell me how terrible it is. This is the only way to make sure you take it seriously and the only way to improve the final product.
If you genuinely love the chapter and think I rock, say so. But I don’t want to hear it unless it’s true.
How does the Process Work?
If you are selected, I will email a chapter to you. You will print the chapter, use a red pen to edit it, and then scan it and email it back to me. If scanning isn’t possible for you, just snail mail it back to my address. Also send back any additional information or research you collected. Anything that would improve the book is welcome.
If you want to edit more than one chapter, just let me know. You will still only receive one copy of the book, but I will greatly appreciate anyone who goes the extra mile and offers to edit more stuff. You will also be credited as an Associate Editor in the book!
Who Can Apply?
Anyone who speaks, reads, and writes fluent English. If you are reading this post right now, you can apply. College students are welcome, as well as graduates, teachers, professors, skydivers, and acrobats.
How do I Apply?
Email me, jeff@graduatedandclueless.com, by FRIDAY, AUGUST 27th, 2010 with a proposal as to how you are qualified and why you want to edit my book – short and simple – just convince me. Don’t send a resume. Just tell me how passionate you are about editing, about life after college, about my blog, about me, or about anything that shows me you want to help. You should probably tell me about your background, especially if you have any experience in journalism, editing, blogging, writing books, reciting poetry, or have a degree in English or Creative Writing. I’m not picky though. Passion is more important than experience.
Disclaimer: this is a subjective process. If I don’t feel like you edited the chapter thoroughly, you will not receive a free book and your name will not appear in the final product. If you apply for this position you agree to these terms.
